Upload a Video Wallpaper

Quick reference for publishing a single video file straight from the desktop app. Walk through it interactively in the first video wallpaper tutorial.

Steps

  1. Open the settings window and choose Upload in the sidebar.
  2. Set the tab to New wallpaper.
  3. Click the file picker and select your video (.mp4 or .webm).
  4. Fill in the form:
    • Slug: lowercase letters, digits, and hyphens. Cannot change later.
    • Name: display name.
    • Version: 0.1.0 for first release.
    • Description: optional.
    • Tags: optional.
  5. Click Upload.

Recommendations

  • Resolution & bitrate: videos play muted and looped. Re-encode to 1080p or lower to keep package size reasonable.
  • Length: looping is automatic, so short clips that loop seamlessly work best. Long videos balloon disk usage and download time.
  • Audio: playback is always muted. Strip the audio track before uploading to save space.
